But this is me when I was there. I'm the guy on the right.
Now I am in Heidelberg. I had no idea what a wonderful place this is. There's a castle on the hillside overlooking the city, and it's a regular Babylon on the streets. If I were a student I'd come here. I'm going to suggest that to Henry. I had an amazing talk with a lot of the students on base, a huge turnout. I don't know if that had anything to do with their teacher giving them extra credit if they got my autograph. Probably not. Last night in Ansbach was a pleasure as well. I have had more chocolate and beer in Germany than I have had in my entire life, and I wish I were exaggerating, but I'm not. On the morrow: Landstuhl.
I haven't been posting lately because I've been and continue to be in Europe. For the first ten days of May Laura and I traveled with some friends around Spain, and then they returned and I stayed -- to work. I'm going to eleven or so American military bases in Venice, Brussels, and Germany to talk to folks about writing. It's a great opportunity. I've only been to one so far, in Vicenza, and today I'm in Brussels for the second stop. But it's been fun. I imagine I'll get pretty worn down by the end of it all . . . but so far, so good.
What I had for lunch today. Mouche. Mussels. Mussels in Brussels. It's a tradition.
